Hello!

I'm Makenzie Collins, and I became a therapist because I genuinely care. From one human to another: I'm rooting for you.

Professional Background

My name is Makenzie Collins, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT#133883). I decided that I wanted to be a therapist early into undergraduate school when I began my own healing journey from food struggles and body hatred. In seeking support, I realized how difficult it can be for people to find adequate care. I decided that I wanted to be part of the solution.

I began working at an adolescent eating disorder residential treatment center in 2015, where I was able to gain experience as direct care staff. In my role, I received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  In 2020, I began my Master's degree in psychology at University of Massachusetts, Global. During this time, I completed my practicum working with those struggling with substance abuse and severe mental illness. I also became increasingly passionate about trauma-informed care and sought out additional training in Somatic Experiencing. Following graduate school, I completed the remainder of my associate hours working at a PHP/IOP program for eating disorders. Here, I continued providing care in a trauma-informed setting and also received training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

Fun Facts

I grew up in California and am a California girl at heart! But, as a military spouse, you can find me living in different places around the United States. Currently, I live in Mississippi with my husband and toddler. We have two dogs, Yuki (a German Shepherd/Husky) and Kenai (a German Shepherd/Poodle). When I am not working or trying to keep up with my son, I love trying out new coffee shops, hiking, going to the beach, yoga, and reading.
