My Vibe: A Summary

Child looking at fish in an aquarium

Not too long ago, my toddler entered the scene and bestowed upon me the title of boy mamma. You can often find me tripping on Hot Wheels, pointing out airplanes, and continually sweeping dirt out of my house.

I'm a military spouse - which means we move a lot. We are currently kickin' it in Mississippi. But, I'm a born and raised Californian and will always be a California girl at heart.

Puppy holding a ball in mouth

We have two spoiled pups in our family. Kenai is an emotionally attuned German shepherd/poodle and is trained in deep pressure therapy. Yuki is a German shepherd/husky and is the biggest diva I know.

Hands reaching for each other

I'm an enneagram 2, which is described as "empathetic, sincere, and warm-hearted". I'm also a cancer, which means I have all the feels. No wonder I became a therapist!

Coffee shop vibes

Coffee shops are my safe place. I think the combination of alone time and caffeine speaks for itself.

In the therapy space,

you can expect to be met with patience, sincerity, and compassion.

We could be a good fit if you want to:

Improve your relationship with food and work on the underlying issues that hold you back from eating disorder recovery

End the war with your body, befriend your nervous system, and discover safety in embodiment

Heal the parts of yourself that have been impacted by childhood trauma and attachment wounds

Try something other than traditional talk therapy by working with a mind-body therapist

I see how hard you are fighting to keep it all together.
What if you didn't have to anymore?

Professional Background

My name is Makenzie Collins, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT#133883). I decided that I wanted to be a therapist early into undergraduate school when I began my own healing journey into eating disorder recovery. In seeking support, I realized how difficult it can be for people to find adequate care. I decided that I wanted to be part of the solution.

I began working at an adolescent eating disorder residential treatment center in 2015, where I supported people in eating disorder recovery as direct care staff. In my role, I received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  In 2020, I began my Master's degree in psychology at University of Massachusetts, Global. During this time, I completed my practicum working with those struggling with substance abuse and severe mental illness. I also became increasingly passionate about trauma-informed care and sought out additional training in Somatic Experiencing. Following graduate school, I completed the remainder of my associate hours working at a PHP/IOP program for eating disorders. Here, I continued providing care in a trauma-informed setting and also received training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
